Biography
Nickelsburg is an economist and econometrician with the UCLA Anderson Forecast and an expert on the U.S. and California economies.
He has published more than 40 articles on monetary economics, econometrics, and aviation economics and comments frequently on a variety of topics, including recession, the airline industry and the economic impact of issues such as wildfires the and labor strife in the entertainment industry.
Nickelsburg has conducted special studies into the future of manufacturing in Los Angeles, distribution of income, the economic impact of the writer’s strike, the undocumented construction and manufacturing labor force, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the garment industry, focusing on the development of new data and the application of economic theory and statistical methods to sectoral issues.
Nickelsburg has held executive positions with McDonnell Douglas, Flight Safety International and Flight Safety Boeing and was managing principal of Deep Blue Economics, a consulting firm he founded. He has also served with the Federal Reserve, developing forecasting tools, and has advised banks, investors and financial institutions.
