Rally for biomedical research planned by campus group

WHAT:
UCLA Pro-Test, a group of faculty, staff and students, is holding a rally to demonstrate support for biomedical research involving laboratory animals and to show solidarity with researchers subjected to criminal harassment by anti–animal research extremists.
WHO:
Several hundred supporters of biomedical research are expected from UCLA and other universities, institutions and organizations in California and elsewhere.

Scheduled speakers include:
David Jentsch, a UCLA psychology professor and neuroscientist who founded UCLA Pro-Test after his car was set on fire by extremists.Tom Holder, who helped organize Pro-Test UK in 2006 while a student at Oxford University to demonstrate support for biomedical research involving animals.John D. Young, director of comparative medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and chairman of the board of directors of Americans for Medical Progress.Scott L. Waugh, UCLA executive vice chancellor and provost.Dr. Gerald Levey, dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and vice chancellor for medical sciences.
WHERE:
Supporters will gather at the corner of Westwood Boulevard and Le Conte Avenue before marching a short distance to a rally at the Court of Sciences on the UCLA campus. (map)

- 11:15–11:30 a.m.: Supporters gather at Westwood Boulevard and Le Conte Avenue
- 11:45 a.m.–noon: March to Court of Sciences
- Noon–1 p.m.: Speakers and rally
