Stabbing victim released from hospital
The student injured in the Oct. 8 stabbing in a campus chemistry lab has been released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The 20-year-old junior, a biochemistry major, was released in good condition on Oct. 18. The university has not been authorized to release her name.
Chancellor Gene Block visited her in the hospital after the attack and praised her courage. In a message to the campus community, he also lauded the actions of teaching staff and police and emergency medical personnel "whose swift and skilled responses helped to save her life."
A 20-year-old classmate, Damon Thompson, pleaded not guilty Oct. 13 to charges of attempted premeditated murder, causing great bodily injury and personal use of a knife. A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge set his bail at $3 million and ordered him to return to court on Oct. 27.
