The UCLA Department of Design|Media Arts offers a variety of events for the public's enjoyment throughout the year, including public lectures, demonstrations and exhibitions. Lectures take place at the EDA (Experimental Digital Arts) facility, located on the first floor of the Broad Art Center tower. Time Based Conceptual Arts Symposium

Among the artists who will introduce their work at the symposium is celebrated filmmaker Guido van der Werve, one of the preeminent artists of his generation, who was recently nominated for the Prix de Rome. Marco Schuler, a sculptor and conceptual filmmaker from Germany, will also be a guest. In addition, the symposium will include a screening of "Identifications," German cameraman Gerry Schum's collection of 20 short films showcasing the seminal works of some of the most important conceptual artists of the 1960s. Presented in conjunction with the "Gravity Art" exhibition at TELIC Arts Exchange in Los Angeles' Chinatown, which features works by 31 artists, this unique symposium highlights the work of more than 20 additional artists, further adding to the Southern California resurgence of time-based conceptual art.
