Regional Variations in U.S. Health Care
Today’s Los Angeles Times features an op-ed co-authored by Dr. J. Thomas Rosenthal, chief medical officer of the UCLA Health System and associate vice chancellor of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, on the need for policymakers to closely examine regional variations in Medicare expenditures when considering national health care reforms.

Environmental Institute Gets New Chief
A Los Angeles Times blog reported Friday that UCLA professor Glen M. MacDonald, an international authority on the environmental effects of climate change and drought, has been named the new director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment. The SoCal Minds blog reported Friday on MacDonald's research on past droughts and the lessons they provide for managing resources today.
