Why Humans Speak and Chimps Don't
Britain's Times and Daily Telegraph, Spain’s El Mundo, and ABC News Español report today on a study led by Dr. Daniel Geschwind, Gordon and Virginia MacDonald Distinguished Chair in Human Genetics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, that links the capacity for speech and language in humans to the evolution of a single gene. The research was highlighted Wednesday by the New York Times, Science, New Scientist, Nature, the Associated Press, Reuters, Science News, CanWest News Service, Wired, Agence France-Press and Live Science. Leukemia Drug May Fight Ovarian Cancer
HealthDay News reports today on a study by researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center that found that a drug frequently used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia can also inhibit the growth and invasiveness of certain types of ovarian cancer when combined with chemotherapy. Study author Dr. Gottfried Konecny, UCLA visiting assistant professor of hematology and oncology, is quoted.
