Stimulus Funds May Trigger Research Renaissance
An article in today's Wall Street Journal about the $10 billion in federal stimulus funds allocated for health research references UCLA's receipt of more than $67 million in National Institutes of Health grants for a variety of research projects, including studies on cancer, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's disease and other disorders. Marcia Smith, UCLA associate vice chancellor for research administration, and Arthur Toga, professor of neurology and director of the UCLA Laboratory of Neuro Imaging, are quoted.
 
Same-Sex Couples Raising Children
An article in today's USA Today on same-sex couples raising children highlights a study by Gary Gates, senior research fellow at the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, that compared U.S. demographic data on same-sex couples who identify as spouses, gay couples who say they are unmarried and married heterosexual couples.
 
Anderson Forecast Examines East Bay Economy
The San Francisco Chronicle reports today on a UCLA Anderson Forecast study produced for the East Bay Economic Development Alliance that examined the state of the economy in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Jerry Nickelsburg, a senior economist with the Forecast, is quoted.     
 
Rights to 'Terminator' Franchise on Auction Block
Nelson Gayton, executive director of the UCLA Entertainment and Media Management Institute and a lecturer at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, was interviewed Monday on National Public Radio's “Marketplace” about the potential sale of the “Terminator” movie franchise.
 
Business Schools and Asian Connections
An article in Monday's BusinessWeek about U.S. and British business schools' ties with Asia referenced the UCLA Anderson School of Management's executive M.B.A. program, which has a school in China.
 
Film Archive Celebrates 'Hollywood's Best Year'
The Los Angeles Times reports today on the UCLA Film & Television Archive's series "1939 Redux," which features films made during what many consider the greatest year of Hollywood's Golden Age. The series begins Friday at the Billy Wilder Theater at the UCLA Hammer Museum and runs through Dec. 11.
 
UCLA Live Play Explores Adolescent Psyche
A Los Angeles Times blog today reviews “Once and for All We’re Gonna Tell You Who We Are So Shut Up and Listen,” a play from Belgium featured in UCLA Live's International Theatre Festival.
