Recession Changes Outlook of Young
A St. Louis Post-Dispatch blog on Tuesday highlighted research by Paola Giuliano, assistant professor of economics at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, showing that individuals who experience a deep economic recession as young adults are more likely to think success is the result of luck and that the government should take a role in increasing poor people's standard of living.
 
Improving Student Performance
The Baltimore Sun reports today on “The Secret of TSL: The Revolutionary Discovery That Raises School Performance,” a new book by William Ouchi, Sigoloff Professor of Corporate Renewal at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, which argues that giving principals more control over school budgets and reducing the total number of students each teacher is responsible for are the keys to improving student and school performance.
 
Making a Case for the DREAM Act
A US News & World Report blog reported Tuesday on a group UCLA students lobbying lawmakers to co-sponsor the federal DREAM Act, legislation that would allow college students brought to the United States illegally as children to receive financial aid and begin the process of becoming U.S. citizens.
