UCLA Theater Department presents New Play Festival
WHAT:
The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television presents its New Play Festival, an annual showcase of new works by students in the M.F.A. playwriting program. Plays featured this year are:
"Who Is Selma Teller?"
Written by Jacob Burstein-Stern and directed by Mary Jo Duprey
Eighty-five-year-old Selma Teller is having a bad day, she has cancer, her sister is being placed in a care facility and Alex Trebek has shown up in her living room. Thus begins a "Jeopardy" game that Selma is not quite sure she wants to win.
"Last Autumn"
Written by Adam Simon and directed by Conor Hanratty
For Melanie, it's anywhere but here. For Mason, it's Melanie. And for Elaine, it's death. At the dawn of the next ice age, everyone's looking for a way out.
"Gross Sales"
Written by Erica Jones and directed by Monica Payne
At Luxique International, makeup consultants Ashli, Krystal and Melina peddle cosmetics that help women "bring the beauty from deep within to the surface." But when their manager announces the beginning of the yearly sales competition, the business of beauty gets downright ugly.
